MCP presents Choral Treasures at world-renowned Carnegie Hall. Bask in an evening of choral music featuring the Masterwork Festival Chorus and prominent soloists, with the all-professional New York City Chamber Orchestra, led by distinguished guest conductor Jeffrey Douma. Mozart’s famously unfinished final masterpiece, Requiem, continues to have a powerful impact with listeners for its tremendous swells and energetic musical phrases, and remains a staple in the classical repertoire.
Guest conductor Jeffrey Douma currently serves as Director of the Yale Glee Club. Hailed under his direction by The New York Times as “one of the best collegiate singing ensembles, and one of the most adventurous”, he also serves as Professor of Conducting at the Yale School of Music.
Singers from across the U.S. will also come together as the National Festival Chorus to perform a fantastic array of choral favorites, all under the baton of guest conductor Brad Holmes. The program includes Hagenberg’s “O Love that Will Not Let Me Go ,” Narverud’s “Let the Music Fill Your Soul,” Hoggard’s “Personent Hodie,” and more. A highly sought after conductor, Holmes is the Director of Choir Programs at Millikin University. He was a Visiting Fellow at Cambridge University, working primarily with the Choir of Clare College, and returns to England frequently for conducting engagements and choral workshops. Other international guest-conducting have included Europe, China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
The concert will also include a performance from the National Children’s Festival Chorus, led by MCP Conductor-in-Residence Brian Clissold, in a a selection of choral works including Gjeilo’s “The Rose,” Dilworth’s “A Symphony of the Heart,” Davidson’s “Birdsong” from I Never Saw Another Butterfly, and more. An accomplished conductor, Clissold has had great success working with choirs, and more specifically, specializing in children’s choirs throughout the Midwest. He recently served as the Artistic Director of The Celebration Singers. As a baritone, he is a founding member of the professional New York based ensemble, Manhattan Chorale, and performs regularly in renowned venues throughout the U.S.
