Join us for an evening of classical masterworks featuring Haydn's Little Organ Mass, Te Deum and a selection of choral works by renowned composer and conductor René Clausen with the Masterwork Festival Chorus, National Festival Chorus, orchestra and esteemed soloists.
The Masterwork Festival Chorus, led by guest conductor Joshua Habermann will perform both Haydn works. Written around 1775, Haydn's Missa Brevis (short mass) features soprano soloist, four-part mixed choir, two violins, organ and bass, it is known as the Kleine Orgelsolomesse (Little Organ Mass) due to its extended organ solo in the Benedictus movement. Haydn's choral masterpiece Te Deum written in three parts was a commission from Empress Marie Therese, the wife of Franz I of Austria.
The concert will also feature the National Festival Chorus in an array of choral works by composer and conductor René Clausen. Currently a professor of music at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, Clausen has served as conductor of The Concordia Choir since 1986. He is also the artistic director of the Emmy award-winning Concordia Christmas Concerts, which are frequently featured by PBS stations throughout the nation.
Clausen is a renowned composer and arranger, having written more than 100 commissioned compositions for organizations such as The Kings Singers, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the American Choral Directors Association. He is also a frequent guest conductor, composer-in-residence, clinician and lecturer. Clausen has conducted such works as Mozart's Requiem, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Brahms' Requiem, Britten's War Requiem and several of his own works including Gloria in three movements. On several occasions, Clausen has conducted at Lincoln Center and at Carnegie Hall.
