A San Francisco native, Margaret Nomura Clark joined the Children’s Chorus of Washington as Artistic Director in August 2016. She oversees the artistic and pedagogical direction of CCW, which has grown to include eight ensembles with over 250 choristers and a dozen music educators and arts administrators on staff. Under her leadership, CCW maintains its reputation as the Mid-Atlantic’s premiere youth chorus, with a robust performance and touring schedule each season.

Mrs. Clark highly values collaborative partnerships as an avenue for providing outstanding choral education and performance experiences for youth. She is passionate about seeking out partners who will broaden the types of music, performance opportunities, and cultures her students are able to work with.

Mrs. Clark has solidified CCW’s partnership with DC Public Schools (DCPS). Each spring, CCW works closely with DCPS music teachers to co-produce the DCPS All City Chorus Treble Division, providing an intensive choral experience to over 250 public school students.

Mrs. Clark was instrumental in establishing the Joan Gregoryk Scholarship Fund, which has significantly increased CCW’s ability to offer financial assistance to support full participation in CCW’s auditioned ensembles and music classes.

Under Mrs. Clark’s leadership, CCW has partnered with many arts organizations in DC and beyond, and performed at marquee venues around the world. Highlights include: Dance Institute of Washington, Washington Performing Arts, Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival, GenOUT, Washington Master Chorale, Strathmore Children’s Chorus, The Washington Chorus, US Army Band Pershing’s Own, Duke Ellington High School, Sticks+Bars, Roanoke Valley Children’s Chorus, Shenandoah Valley Children’s Chorus, Boston Children’s Chorus, and Princeton Girlchoir.

Under her direction, CCW has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, The White House, the Supreme Court, Nationals Park, the opening of the District Wharf, and in South Africa in celebration of Nelson Mandela’s centenary. In addition to her work at CCW, Mrs. Clark is an adjudicator for MD and DC choral festivals, is currently serving as the Diversity Initiatives Co-Chair for the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) MD/DC chapter, and serves as Artistic Consultant for WETA Songs of the Season Program.

From 1997 to 2015 Mrs. Clark was the Associate Artistic Director of the San Francisco Boys Chorus (SFBC), directing the Intermediate chorus and supervising all tiers of the SFBC Training Chorus School. Together with Artistic Director Ian Robertson, Mrs. Clark worked closely with the Grammy Award winning San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera, the San Francisco Ballet, and conducted the chorus at the Grand Teton Music Festival. A highlight of her career was an invitation with the San Francisco Boys Chorus to sing at the inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2009. In addition to her work at SFBC, Mrs. Clark was on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory Pre-college Program, and she established an award-winning chorus during her tenure at the Hamlin School for Girls. Mrs. Clark earned her B.M. and M.M.E in Music Education from the Oberlin Conservatory and has studied choral conducting with Robert Shaw, Rodney Eichenberger, Henry Leck, and Doreen Rao. She has been fortunate to work under the baton of NSO’s conductor Gianandrea Noseda, and additional conductors JoAnn Falleta and Christopher Bell.

Composer, improviser, and vocalist Katerina Gimon's uniquely dynamic, poignant, and eclectic compositional style has earned her a reputation as a distinct voice in contemporary Canadian composition and beyond. Her music has been described as “sheer radiance” (Campbell River Mirror), “imbued…with human emotion” (San Diego Story), and capable of taking listeners on a “fascinating journey of textural discovery” (Ludwig Van), earning her several honours including multiple SOCAN Awards (2022, 2021, 2016), nomination for Western Canadian Composer of the Year (2023, 2021), and a Barbara Pentland Award for Outstanding Composition (2022).

In her music, Katerina draws influence from a myriad of places — from the Ukrainian folk music of her heritage to indie rock, as well as from her roots as a songwriter. Her compositions are performed widely across Canada, the United States, and internationally, with notable performances at Carnegie Hall, Berliner Philharmonie, and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Recent commissions include new music for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Choir of Toronto, National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and re:Naissance Opera.

Katerina holds a Master of Music in Composition from the University of British Columbia ('17) and an Honours Bachelor of Music degree in Composition and Improvisation from Wilfrid Laurier University ('15). Katerina is the composer-in-residence for Myriad Ensemble and is based in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
